An increase in reports of stolen weapons from cars parked by valets in the Tampa area has law enforcement sending a message to gun owners who put weapons in their cars that their guns should be secured.
According to a Tampa police, 15 guns were stolen from a car at a downtown Tampa valet while the vehicle owner was away.
Without surveillance video and no suspects, it’s been difficult to figure out exactly how the guns went missing.
Police also say there have been eight thefts from valets at Tampa area hotels where guests leave a gun in their car only to find it missing when they return.
Officials say if you must possess a weapon in your vehicle, be sure it is protected so that it doesn’t end up in the hands of a criminal who could use it to hurt someone.
