Police officers in San Francisco who point a gun at an individual must now report the action to their executives as a use of force incident.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports on Wednesday that the move comes in the wake of the deadly shooting of Mario Woods on Dec. 2.
The new policy requires police officers who point a gun at someone to explain their action to their supervisors in either the incident report, a supplemental report or in a statement.
Chief Greg Suhr has begun stocking patrol cars with riot shields. Suhr is also looking into the department’s gun range training and equipping police officers with stun guns.
