49-year-old Mark J. Miller, the former Oswego police officer was forced to surrender his guns tonight after a road-rage shooting in December on East Circle Drive.
Miller was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge by Cicero Town Justice David Bruffett. There was no fine and a $255 surcharge, including DNA.
Miller said he was acting in self-defense Dec. 2 when he pointed his licensed semi-automatic at Robert Tifft, 42. But he claimed he didn’t intend to fire the gun.
A bullet struck Tifft under an arm.
Miller was arrested and pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree reckless endangerment before his identity was made public. Sentencing was scheduled for this afternoon.
Tifft claims that Miller got special treatment as a former cop, an accusation that Sheriff Gene Conway and District Attorney William Fitzpatrick deny.
Prosecutor Frank Pelosi made a special trip for the 90-second court proceeding this afternoon.
